There has been a tremendous amount of news–and deservedly so–about the House Republican proposal to cut Medicaid by $880 billion over ten years, which would represent a roughly 10% cut to the program. The news of this proposal has led to widespread outrage and opposition, which has in turn resulted in Republicans in Congress now being unlikely to enact a Medicaid cut of anywhere near that size into law.
However, there is a second major social program to which House Republicans have proposed significant cuts: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP or food stamps. House Republicans have proposed $230 billion in cuts to SNAP over the next ten years, which would represent a cut of roughly 20% to a program that provides assistance purchasing food to 42 million low income Americans.
The Trump administration is openly defying court orders. And now, House Republicans are trying to strip the judiciary of its power to stop him.
Federal agents illegally deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father with legal U.S. status, to a notorious prison in El Salvador. Despite a court order barring his removal, the Trump administration admitted the deportation was an "administrative error" but has refused to comply with judicial orders to bring him back. Even after the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the government must "facilitate" his return, the Department of Justice continues to stall and obstruct.
Rather than uphold the rule of law, House Republicans passed the "No Rogue Rulings Act," a bill that would prevent federal judges from issuing nationwide injunctions—tools often used to block unlawful executive actions. This legislation is a direct response to courts halting Trump's overreaches, including mass deportations and attacks on civil rights. By limiting judicial oversight, Congress is effectively granting Trump unchecked power.

Based on repeated requests from members, this call to ACTION is about something called the SAVE Act, which would require a birth certificate or passport in order to register to vote.
Here are two actions you can take relevant to the SAVE Act.
The MAGA Supreme Court isn’t interested in holding Donald Trump accountable. They were put in their seats by decades of work and billions of dollars from conservative interests who want them to enable his worst impulses.
Trump is openly defying a unanimous Supreme Court ruling that he detained and deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia illegally. The Supreme Court is not going to save us.
It’s up to Congress to act as the check on Trump’s overreach. And it’s up to us to demand Congress do its job.
Bernie Sanders is not only doing rallies around the country. They are hiring organizers at the grassroots level to help put pressure on Republican Members to vote against any legislation that slashed Medicaid, nutrition assistance and other basic needs to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
Several Republican members of Congress in places we have visited signed a letter saying they oppose significant cuts to Medicaid.
Your Congressmen, Tom McClintock and Kevin Kiley, should join them.
So here's the ask: Call your member of Congress to demand they vote NO on any bill that cuts Medicaid, housing, nutrition, education or other basic needs to pay for tax cuts for the richest people in this country.
Kevin Kiley’s number: (202) 225-2523
Tom McClintock’s number: (202) 225-2511

Faith in Action: Why Prayers Alone Are Not Enough
It is deeply deceitful to pray for a solution while doing nothing to fix the problem. Prayer can be a source of strength, comfort, and reflection—but without action, it becomes a shield for inaction. Throughout history, people of faith have not only prayed for justice, peace, and healing—they have fought for it. They've marched, protested, built coalitions, opened their doors, and risked everything for a better world.
We face a world plagued by economic inequality, mass homelessness, climate devastation, rising authoritarianism, and systems rigged against everyday people. When spiritual leaders—whether pastors, rabbis, imams, or priests—stay silent while billionaires tighten their grip on power, hatred spreads like wildfire, and the most vulnerable are pushed to the margins, they’re not just avoiding controversy—they’re abandoning their sacred duty to stand with the people.
And yet, many religious leaders preach hope without demanding justice, offer prayers without demanding accountability, and call for peace without confronting the root causes of suffering. This is not faith—it’s avoidance.
Silence in the face of injustice is complicity. We don't need more empty words. We need leaders of faith who walk with the people, speak uncomfortable truths, and call out injustice from the pulpit.
Religious institutions have immense influence. When they use that influence to challenge unjust laws, organize aid, or demand economic and racial justice, they awaken the moral conscience of entire communities. Imagine the change we could create if every house of worship became a hub for civic engagement, mutual aid, and grassroots power. Imagine if every sermon called for housing the unhoused, feeding the hungry, sheltering the asylum seeker, protecting democracy, and lifting up the voices of the oppressed.
Faith must move us. It must inspire us to act, speak up, and love boldly. If your prayer asks God to heal the world, your hands should be building that world. If your sermon preaches hope, it must also call people to action.
It’s time we challenge our religious leaders: Will you remain comfortable in silence? Or will you rise with the people and speak out for justice, equity, and progress?
Pray, yes—but then speak out, show up, and empower others to act—because faith without action is not enough. Please join us to:
Representative Al Green plans to introduce new articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, stating he does not deserve to hold public office.
“[Trump] can’t be entrusted with liberty and justice for all,” Green told rallygoers earlier this month. “[He] can’t be entrusted with a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
We need to show Congressman Green we have his back. Will you sign and share our petition to impeach President Trump?
So far over 360,000 signatures have been collected on this petition calling on Congress to launch an impeachment investigation against President Trump. We need to show that Americans across the country refuse to allow Trump and his allies to destroy our democracy.
Donald Trump poses an unprecedented threat to our democracy, engaging in multiple abuses of power since the start of his second term. He blatantly disregards our system of checks and balances by defying funding decisions made by Congress and ignoring orders from the judiciary branch.
Trump is not a monarch. He is beholden to the Constitution, as is Congress. If we are to preserve our democracy for the people, Congress must investigate and, if necessary, remove a corrupt executive from office.
There’s a hard truth at the heart of American politics today: our democracy is being drowned out by the deafening roar of big money. The ideals we cherish — a government of the people, by the people, for the people — are slipping further away as billionaires and corporate interests tighten their grip on power. But here’s the good news: we, the people, still have the power to change this.
Let’s look at the facts. Out of the 539 members of Congress, only 16 raised more than half of their campaign funds from small donors — everyday people contributing what they can to candidates who fight for them. Yet, these 16 lawmakers still raised an incredible $86 million from small-dollar contributions. That means nearly 60% of their campaign money came from people like you — not corporate checkbooks. These champions of “people power” prove that grassroots support isn’t just possible — it’s powerful.
Now, contrast that with the rest of the political landscape. Only about 1% of Americans donate to candidates, parties, or PACs. That tiny sliver of the population decides who gets to run for office, who gets heard, and whose interests take priority. Meanwhile, during the 2024 presidential election cycle, the wealthiest 100 individuals donated $1.4 billion to Republican candidates and $438 million to Democrats. Big money isn’t just influencing our elections — it’s controlling them.
And it doesn't stop there. The top 50 largest organizations contributed an eye-popping $1.3 billion to Republicans and another $629 million to Democrats. This is money designed to buy access, shape policy, and tilt the playing field in favor of those already at the top. Every dollar from these mega-donors drowns out the voices of regular Americans who just want a government that works for them.
But here’s the critical point: these numbers aren’t just alarming — they’re a call to action. They show us exactly where the problem lies, and more importantly, they reveal the solution. If just a fraction more of us engage — whether by voting, volunteering, or giving even a few dollars to candidates who stand up to big money — we can flip the script. We can take back our democracy from the special interests and make it work for all of us.
This is not a cry for cash; it’s a rallying cry for action. Billionaires and corporations may think they can buy our democracy — but they cannot buy the power of the people. When we come together, our strength doesn’t come from our wallets — it comes from our numbers, our voices, and our determination to build a fairer, freer future.
Expanding civic access is crucial to making this happen. Too many communities — especially young voters, low-income neighborhoods, and marginalized groups — face barriers that keep them out of the political process. From restrictive voting laws to limited access to reliable information, these obstacles silence the very voices we need most at the decision-making table.
When we remove these barriers, we build a democracy that truly reflects all of us. We empower people to fight for better schools, affordable healthcare, clean air and water, and economic justice. We create a system where elected leaders are held accountable to the people — not the highest bidder.
And the benefits don’t stop with one election cycle. Engaging more people in the process builds a culture of lifelong civic participation, especially among younger generations. It fosters a democracy where participation is expected and celebrated — not discouraged or suppressed.
This fight is about more than just getting money out of politics. It’s about justice. It’s about equity. It’s about creating a future where every voice matters, regardless of your zip code, income, or background.
The people are rising up. We see the problem clearly and know the solution is within our reach.
Let’s get to work.

Just days after triggering a global trade crisis that sent the planet into an economic tailspin, Trump decided to put tariffs on pause for 90 days for most countries. But any apparent stabilization his announcement has brought will likely be short-lived, as Trump retains the ever-present threat to revive the tariffs at a moment’s notice.
Congress can’t allow the U.S. and global economies to be held hostage like this indefinitely. They must act now to re-assert Congressional power over tariffs.
While Trump’s reckless across-the-board tariffs sent the stock market tumbling, the real damage isn’t contained to Wall Street. As always with Trump’s policies, it’s lower-income Americans who will pay the highest price. Working families will feel deeper pain from Trump’s tariffs with rising prices at the grocery store and higher costs for everyday goods.
Here’s what’s really going on: Trump actually wants a recession early in his term so he and his fellow billionaires can buy up everything cheap and then enjoy the ride upward.
